The Importance of Right Website Localization

As the world is becoming more globalized by the day, many companies look for opportunities to spread their influence and brand awareness to as many markets as possible. Just being online is not enough, businesses need to be in line with the new tendencies, social media gravity, blogging and technology advancements.

The online space has become a great hub that accumulates opinions, services, offers, products and people from all over the world. Truth is, a great amount of information is provided in English, as it has established itself as the global communication language.

However, penetrating different markets includes also adopting and accommodating to the culture and language the particular country has. Some companies have realised the need to show their customers their dedication by conforming their services to the local tastes.

That means that if you want your business to spread to another country you need to research the market and reflect the findings in the way you present your business to that market. Translating your website is one of the steps that will help you be closer to your future prospects.

Nevertheless, translation should not be understood in the broad sense of using Google Translate or another software tool. A number of companies use this method, which is not only insulting to the native speakers but shows lack of serious attitude and leads to loss of credibility.

If you want your website to be properly presented into a specific language, you will need to engage specialists, who do not only provide translation but also understanding of your industry.

Each industry has specific terminology, way of expression and style in the different languages. While English could be very tolerant in terms of grammar and style (although professional writing is always recommended for websites and blogs), some other languages are not and poorly written text, lacking in-depth knowledge of the sphere or offering word-for-word translation will be likely to harm your image rather than spread your good name.

Localization is very important when reaching multiple, diverse in language and culture, markets but it has to be done carefully and professionally. When translating your website make sure that the people behind it have sufficient knowledge about your business and your business field along with their experience with the language.

Moreover, having a website in different languages leads to more pages with more content. Content is vital for search engines and optimization. You can optimize the website in the respective language and thus target that specific market. The more quality content you have, the more credible your site will look and rank higher.

Thank you for the comment Kedari. You are right. Localization is part of a strategy to getting to another market and it should not be the reason for it. It is helpful only once you have decided that you want to develop in a specific market and then localize your website, blog, e-commerce website, etc. to help the process. Going into other markets can be beneficial but is risky as well. Localization in itself is not sufficient for success, you need to have done research and clear vision of what you want to achieve in a certain market.

I liked your concept of localization but what seems to be more important is how uniquely you can present yourself to your potential customer, is there is really a need of your company getting into the other markets(Countries with non English as native) should be the ground criteria. I liked what you wrote great thought!
